Oh so you hate your job? Why didn’t you say so…there’s a support group for that. Its called EVERYBODY and they meet at the BAR.
Ok, I don’t actually hate my job — I just stole this from G’s quote section on her Facebook page because it’s intolerably clever and I love it. Some days, tho, when 5:00 just seems to creep toward you at the pace of a grandma snail, you know it’s time to call up (or text/bbm/email/gchat/facebook/tweet — it is the digital age, after all) an old friend and use him as an excuse to hit the 2 for 1 at Industry on a Tuesday evening. I know. Tuesday. Happy Hour is usually reserved for Thursday, I’m a lush, I know. If you’ve noticed, though, I’ve been keeping odd happy hours. And that sometimes I overcompensate at happy hour, which often ends with a much skinnier wallet (so to speak), and sometimes with a slightly larger waist-line. Lucky’s Famous Burgers is the main culprit here — but I’ll get to that in a minute.
I hadn’t seen Ry-Dog in oh, a good 6 months or so. We’d been trying so hard to get together for just one drink and a quick catch-up session for at least 3 months, but this is what happens in our city. There are so many things going on that even if you schedule everything from brushing your teeth to that quarterly board meeting you still may not end up doing everything you’d planned and seeing everyone you’d promised to see.
As I was blissfully sipping my tanq & tonic after arriving early (this never happens) I decided to shoot one more text Ry-Dog’s way to see if he actually had hit send on that last email and bounced like I’d directed him about 10 minutes prior. To my dismay, his less-than-satisfactory response was sorry I can’t make it. I was extremely perturbed — until I saw the follow up text just kidding ; ). Very funny, Ry-Dog. Really, I’m in stitches.
The thing about 2 for 1 until 9:00 is that it makes it very easy to indulge in, well, 2 for 1 drinks until 9:00. Ry-Dog arrived after I did, but he drank a bit faster than me, somehow (still figuring this one out…this also never happens). As it was, for some reason I decided it was a good idea to start a second round of 2 for 1. Enter JR.
He was across the bar that evening and while Ry-Dog and I were running our commentary on the crowd JR decided we must be talking about the group he was with. He promptly came over to say hello, and to buy us shots. 2 for 1, shots, more shots…I promise I only did one shot. My stomach, empty as it was, was surprised enough by that one. In any case, once we finished our drinks, Ry-Dog and I decided it would be a fantastic idea to run down the block to Lucky’s Famous Burger’s, and get a Lucky Burger. And a fantastic idea it was.
Is there better drunk food in this city? Probably not. Greasy, cheap, and delicious. They even have a veggie burger.
